Maurice Evans and his alter ego More Reece Evans – a brief self-indulgent history |
Maurice Evans was born in 1943 and found Freemasonry in 1982 joining his first Craft Lodge in that year. Royal Arch Masonry was embraced in 1984 but it was after his year as Worshipful Master in the Craft ended in 1992 that Maurice saw the light and joined the Mark Degree. This event changed his life for the better as the Mark quickly became his favorite Degree. The Province looked well on Maurice and only three years after being installed as Worshipful Master of his Lodge Maurice became the Grand Junior Warden of the Province an appointment which brought him a lot of pleasure but also a multitude of new friends. This circle of friends has continued to expand through his further and increasing duties within the Mark Province. His various Treasurer Appointments have ensured that his name is known by a large number of West Lancashire Mark Masons. His progress since his first Appointment to Grand Rank in 2006 has been commensurate with his assiduity and he has risen to the Rank of PGJO and has become Very Worshipful! |
This latter promotion in September 2019 at The Grand Lodge Investiture lead to the birth of More Reece Evans a creation through a number of events. Firstly, and critically, The Grand Secretary (could he possibly be welsh?) RW Bro Ryan Williams announced the promotion of Maurice just before he was invested by the Pro Grand Master as More Reece Evans. More Reece proceed back to his allotted seat next but one to, now also, VW Bro John Forster both feeling quite elated. |
No sooner had the proceedings been completed, as is usual, the West Lancs Mark Masons assembled for photos and drinks than it was confirmed that More Reece Evans had completely taken over the persona of Maurice Evans. I could not possibly divulge the main culprits by name (they know who they are!) but More Reece was congratulated, in no particular order, by brethren with the initials, which may identify them, as follows. |
KAB, GHL, IDN, GFB, JCB, TFJ, GPS, RYM and GC. What a lot they have to answer for. Maurice can’t go anywhere in West Lancashire without somebody, most of whom were not at Grand Lodge, thinks that he is More Reece. Still it’s better than being ignored. |
